ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m JAE!

Hi, I’m Jae! I’m a graphic designer who loves creating work rooted in visual identity and narrative. I received my BA from NYU’s Gallatin School in 2025, where I built my own major around design, storytelling, and visual culture.

I’m currently a Graphic Design Intern at GKIDS Films, where I’ve had the chance to learn about the creative processes behind the distribution and promotion of animated films. I’m also an Adobe Creative Apprentice, continuing to grow my practice through mentorship and professional development.

A lot of my work is inspired by East Asian art and animation, drawing from my Chinese background and the visual languages I grew up with. When I’m not designing, you can usually find me reading, making hand-crafts, or being bossed around by my very needy cat!

5 fun facts about me!

1) I was almost a music major before pivoting to graphic design. I played classical piano for 14 years, and I majored in music composition at The UNC School of the Arts High School! I even wrote and scored an entire stage musical during the quarantine.

2) I am the first person in my entire line of recorded ancestry born outside of China. But all credit goes to my parents, who immigrated to America when they were in their early 20s.

3) I can recite all 50 American states in alphabetical order, no songs needed!

4) My family name, 靳 (Jìn) is so rare that most Chinese people have never seen it, and are unsure how to pronounce it when they encounter it. I am very proud of my unique name!

5) I didn’t visit NYC before attending college at NYU. In fact, I was born and raised in rural North Carolina, spending my childhood frolicking in the woods and corn fields with my younger brother (featured in the Alaska photo). NYC was quite a culture shock!
